The Curriculum Committee moves that the following new courses be approved.

Jane Cayford
October 2000

From the Ivan Curry School of Engineering
New courses
APSC 2523 ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS 2
Advanced circuit analysis dealing primarily with AC systems.  The concepts of sinusoidal excitation, phasors and complex impedance are fully developed.  Mutual inductance and magnetically coupled coils are used to describe transformer behaviour and performance.  Power calculations for single and balanced three phase systems are covered, introducing the concepts of real and reactive power.  Unbalanced networks, grounding and harmonics are also examined
Prereq: APSC 2213 (Electrical Circuits 1)

APSC 2613 COMPUTER PROGRAMMING FOR APPLIED SCIENCE 2
Computer programming in the C++ language.  Topics discussed include object oriented versus procedural programming, objects, stacks, queues, linked lists, trees, various sorting and searching algorithms.  The theory will be illustrated by having students develop programs for hardware control, graphics and implementing various common numerical techniques used for engineering calculations
Prereq: APSC 1413 (Computer Programming for Applied Science 1)

Rationale
By agreement, Acadia students who complete the Certificate in Applied Science are accepted by Dalhousie (DalTech) into the Bachelor of Engineering program.. The proposed courses need to be offered at Acadia in order to conform to the DalTech electrical engineering curriculum.
