AGENDAS, DISCUSSIONS and CONCLUSIONS
The following represents the main agenda topics:
1. Entrance Scholarship Acceptance Results
The acceptance results of the scholarship packages
offered to 2004 entrance students were reviewed. The overall acceptance rate of
35% was less than the previous year’s acceptance rate of 48.4%.
2. Monies Available for Scholarships
The amount of funds available for entrance scholarships
was reviewed. The need for more scholarship monies and fundraising efforts to
attract quality students was identified especially as we face increased
competition and declining student populations.
3. Integrated Entrance Scholarship Program
The Committee agreed to integrate the current
entrance scholarship program funding with the new Acadia Excellence Scholarship
program ($500,000 + 100 free double rooms in residence) to provide early
scholarship offers to targeted schools in Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island,
New England and other areas with remaining monies, including renewable monies,
being offered after the April 2 meeting.
4. Conditions of Renewability
The Committee reviewed the conditions of
renewability for renewable entrance scholarship offers. No changes were made.

5. Scholarship Ceilings
No change was made to the ceiling for returning
students as it is tied to tuition. The scholarship
ceiling for entering students was increased from $10,000 to $17,000.
6. Awarding
of 2005 Entrance Scholarships
94 entrance scholarship offers (includes 46 AES
offers) totaling $1,062,125 first year value ($1,621,625 total program value) +
41 rooms (part of AES offers) were made based upon selection procedures agreed
upon by the Committee. The Committee assumed an acceptance rate of
approximately 50% based on prior years’ experience. An additional 87 offers (includes
3 AES offers) totaling $289373 first year value ($377,977 total program value)
+ 1 room (part of AES offer) in entrance departmental scholarships,
scholar-bursaries, Lt Governor Award grants, awards, and grants were also made.
An additional 170 students received AES (Acadia Excellence Scholarship) offers
through the admission process totaling $558,400 (includes 8 $1000 Lt. Gov
Awards) + 134 rooms.
7. Current Membership and Duties
The Committee was asked by the Senate By-Laws
Committee to review its current membership and duties and provide
recommendations back to the By-Laws Committee. It was decided that no changes
in the current membership and duties were to be made.
Respectfully submitted,
Pamela D'Entremont
Secretary
